Como is making a decisive move in the luxury segment. With the opening of Palazzo Venezia in December 2025, the city now boasts its first five-star hotel in the historic center. The new property brings the signature of Villa d’Este directly into the old town, expanding Lake Como’s high-end hospitality landscape with a refined urban address.
Palazzo Venezia is part of Villa d’Este La Collezione and complements the iconic flagship property in Cernobbio with a city-focused concept. While Villa d’Este is known for its parklands, lake views, and classic resort atmosphere, Palazzo Venezia embraces urban luxury with historic character. The 19th-century building has undergone extensive restoration and has been repositioned as a member of The Leading Hotels of the World. Its location between Piazza Cavour and the waterfront promenade is strategic. Landmarks, boutiques, restaurants, and boat docks are all within a short walk. The hotel targets guests who want to experience Como not only as a lakeside retreat, but as a vibrant cultural and lifestyle destination.
Architecturally, the Palazzo’s history remains visible. High ceilings, restored stucco details, and generous window lines define the public spaces. The rooms and suites, by contrast, feature a clean, timeless design with muted tones and abundant natural light. The result is a calm atmosphere that deliberately contrasts with the energy of the surrounding old town.
On the culinary side, the hotel positions itself at an ambitious level with its restaurant Altariva. Executive Chef Alessandro Rinaldi offers a modern, ingredient-driven interpretation of Northern Italian cuisine. A rooftop bar with sweeping views across Lake Como toward the Alps adds another highlight — a new meeting point for aperitivo and evenings above the city’s rooftops. In spring 2026, Caffè Cavour is set to open, carrying forward the tradition of Italian patisserie in a contemporary way.
An additional benefit comes from access to selected wellness and sports facilities at Villa d’Este. In this way, Palazzo Venezia combines urban comfort with the quality promise of an internationally renowned luxury resort.
With Palazzo Venezia, Como gains not just another high-end hotel, but its first true five-star address in the city center — a move that strengthens the destination and creates fresh momentum for year-round tourism at Lake Como.
