For travellers, Greenland has an alluring appeal, and for good reason. The largest island in the world inspires with its pristine nature, endless expanses and Arctic luxury. Here’s why more and more people are embarking on the Greenland adventure – and what you can experience there.

Suddenly everyone wants to go there, albeit for different reasons. With summer holidays getting hotter and hotter, it didn’t take a new US president to make Greenland look a little more attractive. Expedition cruises featuring helicopter flights over the World Heritage site of Ilulissat Icefjord and the icebergs of Disko Bay have long been growing in popularity.

Spectacular nature: glaciers, whales and historic settlements

Important to know: there are still no roads connecting the individual settlements. However, demand for trips to Greenland is consistently on the rise. This is partly due to increasingly mild weather conditions. A whale safari in the morning, perhaps a walk to the historic indigenous settlement of Sermermiut, followed by glamping with a view of calving glaciers.

Nuuk & Sisimiut: the quieter side of Greenland

Nuuk, the capital of semi-autonomous Greenland, still has plenty of peace and quiet. And in the pretty town of Sisimiut, the adventure capital’ of Greenland, where huskies frolic, a short hike will take you to stone relics of Inuit culture.

Hotel tip: away from civilisation

The Northern Lights cabins at Hotel Arctic offer unique accommodation in the middle of Greenland’s Arctic landscape. They provide breathtaking views of the Northern Lights, as well as comfort and tranquillity away from civilisation.
