With the opening of The Red Sea EDITION on Shura Island, on the west coast of Saudi Arabia, the EDITION brand is expanding its portfolio in the region. Following its debut in Jeddah last year, this is the second property in the kingdom – and the first hotel on the island, which is set to become a central part of the large-scale Red Sea project.
The resort is located on a long private beach overlooking the Red Sea and the new Shura Links island golf course, designed by American architect Brian Curley. The location is exceptional: surrounded by turquoise waters, coral reefs, and largely untouched nature.
The hotel was developed in collaboration with Red Sea Global (RSG), Marriott International, and EDITION Hotels. The complex is powered entirely by solar energy. The ensemble was designed by the New York-based Rockwell Group. Flat pavilions made of stone and wood blend into the dune landscape, while coral stone floors, light colours, and natural materials create an atmosphere of understated elegance. 240 rooms and 53 suites open onto the sea or the golf course, some with private pools and direct beach access. Architecture and landscape flow seamlessly into one another – typical of the EDITION brand style.
The resort offers several dining options: in the Lobby Lounge, the aroma of coffee and pastries in the morning is later replaced by evening cocktails, the Central reinterprets American classics, while the JIWA Beach Club offers Balinese serenity right by the sea. December will see the opening of the signature restaurant ANASA, under the direction of Saudi chef Basma Elkhereiji, who combines Mediterranean cuisine with local ingredients.
The light-flooded spa area promises utter tranquillity, with treatments from Omorovicza and Le Labo complemented by saunas, infrared therapies and a ‘recovery dome’. The gym features state-of-the-art equipment, training programmes, and outdoor activities ranging from water sports to desert hiking. With over 1,000 square metres of event space, including a ballroom with sea views, The Red Sea EDITION also views itself as a venue for conferences and social events.
With its location on the Shura Links golf course, its clean design, and its focus on sustainability, the new resort positions itself as an exclusive retreat in a region that is cautiously opening up to international tourism – while demonstrating that modern luxury is first and foremost about tranquillity, space, and respect for the environment.
