Mallorca has many faces, but one only reveals itself at second glance: the Serra de Tramuntana. This UNESCO-protected mountain range in the northwest of the island is defined by centuries-old terraced landscapes, olive groves and quiet paths winding through limestone slopes. Here, above Valldemossa, the Vestige Collection has made the historic estate Son Veri accessible once again – understated and closely connected to its surroundings.

The estate lies just about twenty minutes from Palma, yet feels secluded. Below stretches the Valldemossa valley, while above rise the ridges of the Tramuntana. The location combines proximity to the city with a palpable sense of calm that is not found everywhere on the island.

The building itself dates back to the 19th century and stands on a property of around 100 hectares that was used for agriculture for centuries. Terraced fields, ancient olive trees and shaded pathways still define the landscape today. The restoration by the in-house Vestige Estudio follows a clear principle: preserve what exists – and intervene only where necessary. Key elements such as the former tafona (olive mill), vaulted ceilings made of Marés stone and the inner courtyard have been retained. New materials were used sparingly, often in collaboration with local craftsmen. The result is a harmonious balance between original architecture and contemporary comfort.

Inside, Son Veri offers six bedrooms, complemented by generous living areas, a professional kitchen, a wine cellar and retreat spaces such as a small cinema or a fitness area. Despite these features, the character of a private home remains – ideal for longer stays, families or small groups. Outdoors, this approach continues. Terraces, gardens and pathways blend seamlessly into the landscape. A pool overlooking the Bay of Palma, a tennis court and simple lounging areas integrate naturally into the surroundings. Water features, citrus trees and Mediterranean plants reflect the estate’s organic structure.

The Tramuntana itself is more than just a backdrop. Staying here means moving through a cultural landscape shaped over generations. Paths lead through olive groves and small villages such as Deià or Sóller, while the sea always remains within reach. Careful resource management also played a role in the project. Existing natural stone was reused, rainwater is used for irrigation, and traditional materials suited to the historic structure were applied.

Son Veri is not a classic hotel, but a retreat that places tranquillity, space and landscape at its centre. A place that reveals just how multifaceted Mallorca can be beyond its well-known coastlines.
