Sani Festival 2026: Music over the Aegean for over 30 years

For more than three decades, the Sani Festival has been bringing international artists together on a stage overlooking the Aegean Sea. It takes place in Sani on the Chalkidiki peninsula in northern Greece, where pine forests, long sandy beaches and the sea combine to form a backdrop that has defined the festival’s character for decades.

The festival was founded in 1992. Since then, it has become a fixture of the Greek cultural summer and has welcomed more than 1,800 artists to its stage. The programme has never adhered to strict genre boundaries. Jazz meets rock, soul meets folk, and international stars meet Greek artists. It is precisely this mix that continues to define the festival’s character to this day. The festival will remain true to itself in 2026 as well. Robert Plant and his band Saving Grace – one of the defining voices in rock history – are travelling to Chalkidiki. For decades, The Waterboys have been blending rock, folk and Celtic influences into a distinctive sound, whilst Soul II Soul have shaped the British music scene far beyond the boundaries of R&B.

A completely different genre, but no less spectacular: Vicky Leandros, one of Europe’s best-known Greek artists, is also among the festival’s guests. At first glance, these names seem to have little in common. Yet it is precisely this diversity that tells the story of the festival. Here, different musical worlds come together without creating any stylistic contradiction. The Sani Festival does not rely on trends or short-lived fads, but on artists who have often been a part of their audience’s lives for decades.

The venue itself also plays an important role. The concerts take place on Sani Hill, an open-air stage overlooking the Aegean Sea. As the sun slowly disappears behind the sea and the first notes drift across the bay, it becomes clear why the festival has been attracting artists and audiences alike for decades. The landscape provides the backdrop, whilst the music takes centre stage. For more than 30 years, the Sani Festival has succeeded in bringing together a wide variety of artists on one stage whilst remaining true to its own character. At a time when so much is becoming increasingly specialised, this approach seems almost unusual. Yet this is precisely where its strength lies to this day.
