Costa Ragusa

Sicily is one of those destinations one returns to again and again. The island surprises anew each time — with its Baroque cities, millennia of history, a cuisine that ranks among Italy’s finest, and landscapes that range from Mount Etna to the long sandy beaches of the south coast. While places such as Taormina, Palermo and Cefalù have long been among the classics, the southeast of the island still reveals a quieter, more authentic side. It is precisely here that Costa Ragusa is emerging as a new destination — and offering a compelling reason to put Sicily back on the travel list.

The region around Ragusa brings together much of what makes Sicily so special. Between the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Val di Noto, the Archaeological Park of Kamarina, the beaches of Marina di Ragusa and small coastal villages, culture, nature and the Mediterranean way of life are often only a few kilometres apart. Rather than focusing on a single resort, Mangia’s is pursuing a more comprehensive concept here: the centre of attention is not one hotel, but a destination that can be discovered all year round.

The opening chapter is Mangia’s Costa Ragusa Borgo, which welcomes its first guests in early July. At the beginning of August, it will be followed by Icona Costa Ragusa Resort, a five-star luxury resort focused on tranquillity, privacy and a modern “quiet luxury” approach. The project is to be further complemented in 2027 by Donnafugata Golf Resort, with two championship golf courses, positioning southeastern Sicily even more strongly for international golf travellers. Together, a new tourism hub is taking shape that connects different styles of travel — from family holidays and wellness to sport and culinary journeys.

The region itself plays the leading role. Strolling through the Baroque lanes of Ragusa Ibla in the morning, enjoying fresh fish by the sea at lunchtime, relaxing on one of the long sandy beaches in the afternoon and ending the day with a glass of Nero d’Avola — southeastern Sicily tells a different story from the island’s familiar postcard motifs. It feels more relaxed, more authentic and invites visitors to experience the island at a calmer pace.

Costa Ragusa also draws on its surroundings when it comes to cuisine. The culinary offering is based on regional products and Sicilian traditions, complemented by modern interpretations and international influences. Added to this are generous sports facilities with tennis, padel, golf and outdoor activities, as well as wellness programmes designed to make a stay attractive well beyond the classic summer season.

Costa Ragusa is therefore less a single hotel project than an invitation to rediscover southeastern Sicily. Those who already know the island will find a region here that has preserved its very own character away from the classic travel routes. And those visiting Sicily for the first time may discover precisely that side of the island which makes so many people return again and again.
