Menorca is often described as Mallorca’s smaller sister – yet the island actually follows its own rules. Less developed, less densely built, and instead shaped by open space, agriculture, and a landscape that has hardly changed over decades. The fact that the entire island has been protected as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 1993 is not merely a label here, but part of everyday life.
With the opening of Vestige Binidufà in April 2026, precisely this quality comes further into focus. In the north of the island, far from the major flows of tourism, a place is emerging that presents Menorca as it was meant to be: calm, reduced, and closely connected to its surroundings. Binidufà is part of an estate of around 800 hectares and complements the existing sister hotel Son Ermità. Together, the two properties form a rare constellation – two independent places that unfold across a continuous landscape. The new property is set in a gentle valley, surrounded by hills and the reddish soil typical of Menorca. Grazing cattle, dry stone walls, and expansive fields define the scenery. It is a landscape that does not feel staged, but organically grown.
The building itself has been carefully restored. Traditional construction methods and materials were at the core, complemented by a clear, contemporary design. Inside, eleven rooms and suites are available. Natural materials, warm tones, and locally crafted furniture define the spaces, complemented by selected antiques and artworks. The outdoor areas follow the same approach. Gardens and terraces transition seamlessly into the surroundings, native plants promote biodiversity, and allow the estate to remain a natural part of the landscape.
A central element of the property is the restaurant Mesura, which deliberately takes a different path. The focus is on a plant-based cuisine strongly rooted in the region – featuring vegetables, herbs, and grains from the surrounding area as well as products from local farms. In doing so, the concept reflects a development that is gaining importance in Menorca: quality through origin.
The island itself has evolved in recent years without losing its character. Places such as the port of Maó or the old town of Ciutadella combine historical substance with a new, understated form of gastronomy and culture. At the same time, nature remains a central part of the experience – for example along the Camí de Cavalls, which circles the island and provides access to secluded coves. Within this context, Binidufà does not present itself as a classic hotel, but as part of this landscape. Guests move between the two properties, follow paths through fields and olive groves, and discover the surroundings step by step.
Once again, Menorca reveals itself as a destination for travellers who do not seek to see as much as possible, but to choose consciously. With Binidufà, a new place is created that provides the perfect setting for exactly that.
