In early November 2025, the Mandarin Oriental Downtown, Dubai opened its doors in the 303-metre-high Wasl Tower on Sheikh Zayed Road. The hotel blends seamlessly into the dynamic cityscape and views itself as a place where architecture, design and hospitality come together in perfect harmony. Conceived on a vertical plane, but with a clear connection to the ground – a haven of calm amid the hustle and bustle.
The tower was designed by Dutch architectural firm UNStudio, with interiors by G.A Group. The result is a composition of glass, light, and movement: flowing lines, and spaces that make an impact without being excessively loud. The hotel offers a total of 259 rooms and suites, all with views of downtown Dubai or the vastness of the desert. Warm materials, soft lighting, and precisely placed details create an atmosphere that allows for both distance and closeness. The ensemble is complemented by 224 residences that combine hotel comfort and privacy – designed for long-term guests who wish to feel at home in the city.
The hotel also sets the tone in terms of cuisine. Ten restaurants and bars form a small culinary quarter, each with its own unique character. Yù & Mì, inspired by 1960s Hong Kong, combines the energy of a bar with the depth of Chinese cuisine. Chitarra is dedicated to the Italian pasta tradition – open, clear and unpretentious. The offering is complemented by a rooftop bar, lounges, and a new nightlife venue.
The spa spans two floors – featuring dark marble, brass, and lighting that creates tranquillity rather than stimulation. Rooms for relaxation and concentration are complemented by a 25-metre pool, exercise rooms, and vitality zones.
The sloping ceramic façade of the Wasl Tower provides natural shade and reduces energy consumption. It represents a rethinking of luxury that focuses on sustainability and precision.
