Adrenaline, action, and excitement. Switzerland is currently one big mountain bike party. Following the World Championships in Valais, there’s another highlight coming up from 19 to 21 September 2025. The UCI Mountain Bike World Cup Lenzerheide.
The coat of arms of the canton of Valais is adorned with 13 stars. And that is exactly how many medals the Swiss cyclists had set as their goal for their home World Championships. In the end, the Swiss Cycling national team exceeded its own target. After two intense weeks of competition and 25 titles up for grabs, Switzerland once again confirmed its reputation as a mountain biking nation. In front of a home crowd, the athletes secured a fantastic 14 medals (2x gold, 8x silver and 4x bronze). A veritable fireworks display of success.
However, it wasn’t just the stars who sparked Swiss enthusiasm. The young talents also made a brilliant impression and showed themselves in top form. Leading the way was Finn Treudler, who demonstrated his great potential in the U23 category with gold in cross-country and silver in short track. ‘The fact that we are at the forefront in all age categories has a lot to do with the continuity in our promotion of young talent. This national team will continue to bring us much joy long after the World Championships in Valais,’ says sports director Patrick Müller.
For GOAT champion Nino Schurter, the last World Championship race was the first part of a huge farewell party. A few days after winning the World Championship bronze medal in the mixed relay, the ten-time world champion visibly enjoyed his finale away from the podium and was accompanied by thunderous applause from the crowd as he crossed the finish line.
UCI World Cup Lenzerheide – A farewell that will give you goose bumps
From Valais to Graubünden. No sooner are the thrilling World Championship races over than the mountain bike circus moves on to Graubünden. For the eighth time, Lenzerheide is hosting the world’s highest-level mountain bike racing series (19 to 21 September 2025). As is tradition, the programme includes races in the disciplines of cross-country short track (XCC), downhill (DHI) and cross-country Olympic (XCO). Andri Frischknecht, another Swiss crowd favourite, will also be there at the starting line – he is continuing the legendary family dynasty established by his father Thomas and grandfather Peter and hopes to shine in Lenzerheide.
While the slogan chosen for the event is ‘Let’s Celebrate’, the mountain bike weekend will also provide an emotional stage for several farewells: Nino Schurter and Thomas Litscher will compete in their last World Cup races, while Camille Balanche will ride her last home World Cup before ending her professional career at the end of the season.
Nino says Adieu: Lenzerheide celebrates the King of MTB
Sport provides a framework for many extraordinary stories. And that of Nino Schurter and Lenzerheide is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful. Time and again, the ten-time world champion and 2016 Olympic champion celebrated his greatest triumphs in his home canton. The exceptional athlete still considers his 2018 World Championship title to be the highlight of his impressive career – and now the circle is complete. Excitement and goosebumps are guaranteed.
A weekend full of action
Thrilling races, exciting side events, and a festival atmosphere: at the Steiböckli Cup, the youngest riders show off their skills, while the Whip-Off Contest celebrates the most spectacular jumps. E‑bike fans can try out the latest models in the Shimano Test Area before celebrating in the Party Dome in the evening with concerts and DJ sets. A festival for fans and families that combines sport, fun, and atmosphere to perfection.
