Sometimes a plate of pasta is all it takes to make you feel like you’ve been carried off to Rome. Or a glass of fine Italian red wine that makes borderlines disappear for a moment. If you want to eat authentic Italian food in Switzerland, you don’t have to cross the border – you just need to know where to go.

Zurich, Basel, Bern and Gstaad are home to some of the country’s best spots to experience authentic Italian joie de vivre on a plate.

Zurich

Bom e Belli

On Thursday and Friday evenings, Raban Jacoby and Naomi Biaduo serve a five-course tavolata in the canteen, starting with a round of antipasti, followed by two hand-rolled pasta dishes, a vegetable platter, and dessert. The menu is dedicated to a different region each month and promises authentic variety.

Conti

A Zurich classic for those who like to keep things stylish. Located directly behind the opera house, the Conti impresses with its elegant atmosphere and Italian gourmet cuisine. Highly recommended: the ravioli with cime di rapa, as befits an Apulian chef like Marco Fontò.

Orsini

Located in the Mandarin Oriental Savoy on Paradeplatz – with access via Waaggasse – the restaurant serves exquisite Italian cuisine on a fine dining level. The restaurant’s signature dish – the heavenly raspberry risotto – demonstrates the innovative skill of the kitchen.

Eden Kitchen & Bar

Modern, urban, uncomplicated – but with substance. Here, squid carbonara meets Zurich’s trendy flair, atmospheric DJ sounds, and a stylish ambience designed by Philippe Starck. Perfect for a light lunch or dinner with friends.

Napulé

Amore to go! If Naples had a home in Zurich, it would probably be here. The dough is made by a real pizzaiolo, using a special premium pizza flour – the result is pure poetry that is guaranteed to keep you coming back for more.

Basel

Antichi Sapori

The labour of love of hosts Ivan and Genny Angelini is evident in the care and dedication they put into their restaurant. Just like in Italy, you choose from a menu that has been kept deliberately simple, with six antipasti, three primi, and four secondi – but the simplicity only serves to make the whole experience more authentic.

Little Italy

A culinary getaway in the heart of Basel. Here, Biago Malagrino proves that pasta is anything but monotonous and boring. In addition to artfully folded ravioli with wild boar ragout and red wine sauce, or tagliolini with mint and lemon, the menu also features fish, seafood, and roast spring chicken.

Dio/Mio

A mix of pizzeria, bar, and trendy meeting place that does one thing really well: really good pizza. What makes it special? Each pizza comes with its own recommended drink. Most of the ingredients are sourced from Naples and the surrounding area.

Latini

Uncomplicated osteria-style cuisine for all those who want to try something new. The risotto Latini with saffron and sliced veal alone is worth a visit, however, the classic lasagne al forno is also impressive. Another highlight: the homemade dolci to finish off the meal.
