Whether authentic wood-fired pizza, homemade pasta or high-end gourmet cuisine with an Italian twist, the love of cucina italiana is something that is celebrated even away from the big cities.
In Bern, you’ll find traditional classics with a modern twist, while Gstaad offers Italian haute cuisine served in a stylish setting. These six addresses prove that Bella Italia is sometimes closer than you think.
Bern
Più Kornhaus
Located in the venerable Kornhauskeller, Più is a stylish ode to Italian cuisine. Start with stuzzichini such as fritto misto or polenta fries with truffle dip before studying the extensive pizza menu. The intingoli – a selection of dips for the pizza crust – are a real highlight.
Hellys
The first choice for cacio e pepe fans! Just a few minutes’ walk from the train station, this small but excellent restaurant serves classic dishes that are sure to impress. In addition to pasta and risotto (with saffron and bottarga), you can snack on olives, anchovies and Parmesan, and enjoy lamb, aubergine and creamy desserts.
Da Nino
An establishment that serves up the best pizza in town with a light crust and crispy base. From simple classics such as bufalina and diavola to exciting original creations, you’ll be spoilt for choice. For dessert, try the panna cotta al caramello or tiramisù della casa.
Gstaad
Locanda Dalsass
The gourmet restaurant at the hotel Bernerhof Gstaad pays homage to award-winning chef Martin Dalsass (previously awarded 18 GaultMillau points at Talvo in St. Moritz-Champfèr), who continues to wield the wooden spoon here despite his retirement. His signature dish is cavatelli with mussels, clams and calamari.
Le Grand Bellevue
At Leonard’s, chef Francesco de Bartolomeis focuses on regional ingredients from local producers and trusted suppliers, combining Italian classics with international culinary highlights.
Gildo’s
A classic restaurant located in the legendary Gstaad Palace and named after the legendary maître Gildo Bocchini. Today, his successor Maurizio Paglino celebrates Italian cuisine during the winter months, including warm hospitality à la Gildo.
