Milan Design Week 2025: the future of design – a unique interplay of art, architecture and innovation
Milan Design Week 2025 was an extraordinary event where design, art and architecture seamlessly came together for a spectacular experience. The traditional boundaries of design were challenged and reimagined through pioneering installations, creative collaborations and forward-looking concepts. The event provided fascinating insights into the world of design, sparked curiosity and offered fresh perspectives on the interplay between design, society and technological development.
An echo of light, fabric and memory
Pierre-Yves Rochon created a refuge for the senses that explores opera, architecture and memory. Inspired by Visconti, Mahler and 19th century glasshouses, the interior brought together the past and vision. Here, the focus is not on the preservation of beauty, but its liberation – a timeless dialogue between art, design and emotion.
Architecture in motion
With Temple, Action, Movement, Alvisi Kirimoto brought architecture to life in the Cortile of the University of Milan. Six movable columns became symbols of change, relationship and participation. TAM TAM was not a monument, but an interplay of space, gestures and resonance.
Where colour meets form
Located in the heart of the Brera Design District, the NOËL & MARQUET Galerie Rouge took visitors on a captivating journey into the world of decorative wall design. The installation, designed by studioutte, was a modern glyptotheque in a rich burgundy colour that combined classic elegance with contemporary design. Wall panels, sculptures and innovative decorative elements transformed the room into a multisensory experience that harmoniously combined form, colour and texture.
A dialogue between the past and future
Villa Héritage by Pierre-Yves Rochon questioned the values of beauty and time. It showed that heritage should not be seen as a constraint, but as a source of freedom. Part of the exhibition format A Luxury Way, it established a connection between tradition and innovation, opening up a space for reflection on life and artistic creation.
An immersive journey through light and sound
Robert Wilson opened the 2025 Salone with Mother at the Museo della Pietà Rondanini — Castello Sforzesco. The installation, inspired by Michelangelo’s masterpiece and the music of Arvo Pärt, combined light, art and the ‘unfinished’ in a powerful dialogue. The installation offered visitors a space for contemplation, with music, light and shadow creating a deeper emotional resonance.
