Château la Commaraine Opens Its Doors

With the opening of Château la Commaraine, one of Burgundy’s most exciting new hospitality projects has come to life in the heart of the region. Located in Pommard, just minutes from Beaune and the famous Route des Grands Crus, a historic wine estate has been transformed into an elegant five-star hotel following a five-year restoration – nestled among UNESCO-protected vineyards and surrounded by the vines of its own Premier Cru estate.

The history of the property dates back to 1112. For centuries, the château played a significant role in the region’s wine culture before being reimagined by Champagne Hospitality, the group behind the highly acclaimed Royal Champagne Hotel & Spa. Carefully restored by Richard Martinet and with interiors designed by Affine Design, the property combines historic architecture with understated contemporary elegance. Light wood tones, Burgundy stone and a warm colour palette reflect the landscapes of the Côte de Beaune without resorting to clichés.

The château offers a total of 37 rooms and suites, many overlooking the surrounding vineyards or the spectacularly integrated cuverie, where the estate’s wines are produced. At the heart of the experience remains the wine itself: the historic Clos de la Commaraine, a renowned Pommard Premier Cru vineyard, is cultivated biodynamically and transforms the hotel into a true working estate. Private tastings, cellar tours and insights into vineyard work are naturally part of the guest experience.

Culinary experiences place Burgundy firmly centre stage. At Le Clos Bistro, regional classics and seasonal cuisine take the spotlight, while Le VIII, set to open soon within the historic vaulted wine cellars, will offer a refined fine-dining experience. The culinary direction is led by Christophe Raoux, Meilleur Ouvrier de France and Executive Chef of the Royal Champagne Hotel & Spa.

The surrounding region further enhances the appeal of a stay here. Between renowned wine villages such as Meursault, Volnay and Aloxe-Corton, cycling routes through the vineyards and the historic streets of Beaune, Burgundy reveals itself at perhaps its most beautiful – slow-paced, indulgent and deeply connected to its landscape. 

Château la Commaraine sees itself less as a traditional luxury hotel and more as an invitation to truly experience Burgundy.
