Ayã Resort opens above the coast of Ayia Thekla

The coastal region in the southeast of Cyprus has been developing noticeably for some time – new hotels are focusing more on design and atmosphere than on sheer size. With the Ayã Resort, which opened at the end of April 2026 above Ayia Thekla, another project is joining this direction.

The property is slightly elevated above the beach, overlooking the open sea. The location is remote yet close enough to the island’s more lively areas to combine both.

With 48 suites, the resort deliberately remains compact. Some rooms feature private pools, while others are directly connected to the central facilities. At the heart of the property is a large pool area, designed as a meeting point within the resort. The structure is simple: retreat in private spaces, movement and interaction around shared areas.

Architecture and interiors were created by local studios and combine different references. Elements of Cycladic architecture meet details more commonly associated with Southeast Asian resorts. Light colors, wood, linen fabrics, and open transitions between indoor and outdoor spaces define the overall look. Pathways through gardens and planted areas connect the different sections and reflect the island’s landscape.

The restaurant Mãnna is led by Constantinos Vourlias. The cuisine is based on Mediterranean foundations but deliberately incorporates influences from other regions. The dishes remain relatively minimal and focus on seasonal products from Greece and Cyprus. The offering is complemented by a sushi bar by the pool, which leans more toward international preferences.

The Ayã Resort is aimed at adult guests and combines two approaches: quiet retreats and a program that evolves throughout the day. During the day, the pool area takes center stage; in the evening, the atmosphere shifts with music and smaller events.

This combination is no coincidence. Many new projects in Cyprus are trying to find exactly this balance – between a classic beach stay and a slightly more dynamic environment. The Ayã Resort is part of a broader development the island has been undergoing in recent years. Cyprus is positioning itself more strongly in the upscale segment without losing its character.
